My Radio Flyer
Thomas J. Itrich • Bloomingdale, Illinois
The year was 1946 in Chicago – the Western frontier – where my Radio Flyer became my stagecoach. It was my main means of transportation. I can still remember sitting on one leg while pushing off with the other. At four years old I could get up a pretty good speed until I went careening off the sidewalk into a rut. This caused me to come to an abrupt stop, at which point I would quickly yank the wagon back on course and ride like the wind! I left my Radio Flyer outside for quick get-away's, like the cowboy left his horse tied to a post. With your wagon and my imagination, anything was possible!
